Son received his acceptance to University Honors Program today via Wolfpaw. Also received Chancellors Leadership Scholarship via snail mail today. Signed up for Honors Village housing. Still waiting on financial aid package and outside scholarships before enrolling.

Anyone else leaning towards being a member of the Wolfpack Class of 2017?

Congratulations, 3BOYSRUS!

My d was also accepted in the UHP. She is still undecided but needs to make a decision soon. We think NCSU is the best choice for her at this point, but it’s her decision to make.

Once he signed up for housing, was there any access to some sort of roommate selection process?

Congrats to you as well NeedAVacation!

It is also our feeling that NCSU is the best fit for S.
In the process of signing up for honors housing your D will be prompted to choose between Random Honors Roommate, Requested Honors Roommate and a third option, which escapes me at the moment. S chose random since we are OOS and he hasn’t met anyone yet.

S is Aerospace Engineering intent admitted to First Year Engineering. Tossed around the idea of New Engineering Living Learning Village in Metcalf (suite style dorms) but S figured he would spend a lot of time with other engineering students in class and decided to broaden his community base by mixing it up with Honors Village students.

What major is your D interested in?

S accepted to Honors but submitted housing application for Sullivan Hall to participate in the University Scholars Program. Also an Engineering Major in Computer Science. Son committed to NC State and we agree it is the best university for him.

Anyone else accepted to Honors but decided instead on USP?

Congrats 3Boys and NeedAVacation!! and good luck with decisions!

3BOYSRUS, D would be in the College of Sciences.

vryproudmom, When my older d applied to NCSU, she chose to apply to the Scholars program instead of Honors. She would have been an engineering major. She has an artistic side and preferred the idea of more creative activities to balance out the intensity of engineering. She also thought engineering would be hard enough without adding extra research. In the end she chose another school. I’m sure there are other students who choose Scholars over Honors. And Congratulations to your S, by the way!

NeedAVacation, My daughter is starting NC State in the Fall. She was accepted into to the UHP program. She was also selected as a Thomas Jefferson Scholar - the dual-degree program for CALS. She wants to be a Veterinarian, so her CALS major will be Animal Science. Not sure about the CHASS major yet. She grew up a huge NC State fan, so she is very excited. Had to choose between UNC, NC State and UNC Wilmington - but not really a choice for her. She is Pack all the way.

This past week she signed up to live in the Honors Village, with random as roommate selection. She is trying to figure out how to find a roommate in advance. I guess I’m bias, but my daughter is the most amazing human being I’ve ever met - smart, fun, beautiful, caring - loves animals (of course). So my wife and I are hoping she can find another similar person to share her first year of college with.

Did your daughter decide to attend NC State? If so, how is she selecting a roommate?

Any help by other Honor’s students or their parents regarding Honors Village roommate selection would be helpful also.

Thanks!

Welcome ProudPackDad! Congrats to your family and your daughter! We too are excited and proud to join the Pack!

There is one website “■■■■■■■■”, that apparently assists in finding a college roommate via an online survey. Not quite sure how much more success can be had using this tool as opposed to allowing the university to match students using their generic survey. I would imagine that students can connect with others via facebook just as easily. Either way we are at the mercy of the honesty of the prospective roomie. Fortunately, by choosing Honors Village Housing the pool of potential roomies is much smaller to start with.

My son is not much of a morning person and studies late in the evening when all is quiet (with headphones on while listening to music). He plays acoustic & electric guitar, as well as drums. He will most likely only be bringing along his acoustic electric guitar. He is witty, sarcastic and not afraid to speak his mind (politics) but he is smart, kind and considerate as well. He does not take himself seriously at all but at the same time is mindboggling cool in pressure situations. We live in a small town, about 1/4 the size of NC State…so this will be quite an adjustment but he’s excited to step out of his comfort zone and this one horse town. He is keeping an open mind.

ProudPackDad, congratulations to your daughter!

Yes, my d has decided to attend NCSU. She started looking through a couple of facebook sites for incoming freshman (one is just for females looking for roommates) but didn’t see many UHP students. She decided to choose the random roommate option just so she could officially accept UHP. However, she did contact the UHP and was told that if she did find a match, they could email someone to let him know and they would be matched. We also contacted a current UHP student we know and peppered her with questions. She said that each set of roommates is required to come up with a detailed living contract (pre-set topics) that is very thorough, and it must be reviewed with the RA. This is intended to force the students to think about potential conflicts ahead of time and how they will deal with them. This set our minds at ease a bit. I do wish they had more living-style questions on the housing ap as a pre-screening process. This student also said that in general, any serious partiers don’t last long in the UHP.

I think my d’s matches wiill be fairly narrow just based on her sleep preferences! She likes her sleep! She prefers to neither stay up really late nor to get up really early but would prefer to get up early given the two options. I can try to send you a PM with more of her roommate-type details as well as a link to the facebook page for incoming female freshman.

3BOYSRUS, D accepted UHP several days ago, but the Honors Village is still not an option in her housing application. Did it appear quickly after your son accepted? I think she might need to contact them about it if it doesn’t show up soon.

NeedAVacation, Yes, S received acceptance to UHP and was able enroll in UHP housing immediately. Not sure how long his acceptance to UHP had been waiting for him to view prior to his enrolling. He wasn’t really checking daily. You could contact Honors Village Housing Community Director@ brian_peters@ncsu.edu.
