I'm a caucasian female from Massachusetts who is looking into applying to CMU for business. Does it help my chances of admission because I'm female?

Does the saying "the odds are good, but the goods are odd" ring true at CMU? In other words, how hard is it to meet decent guys? Obviously statistics are on my side, but are some of the guys at least normal?

I'm not yet a student at CMU, but I spent the obligatory overnight there, and while I met some really strange, exciteable CS geeks, I also met a couple of fairly average "we play video games" guys who were sitting in a lounge, surfing the internet on their laptops, and talking about kids geting in trouble for illegally downloading music.

Visit and check out the merchandise. It depends on what you consider odd goods. Because of its strong performing arts departments, there are a number of noneligible males there. Also many international students, and computer/engineering geeks.

I lived near CMU for years, and I can tell you that Oakland is just filled with college students on weekends, whether they are CMU, Pitt or other college kids, I cannot say. Your young radar can scope these things out the best for you.

Well, if you can seed through all the gay guys, the CFA might have some "normal" ones.....;)

There are thousands of people at CMU, 60% of them male. There are surely normal ones among them. All societies have their weirdos, but I think the admissions process tends to filter them out. Remember how the admissions offices say they're looking for well-rounded students? This is why.

Honestly, don't worry. It'll be tougher on me, being male and therefore having less to choose from, but I'm not worried. There's always UPitt next door if CMU disappoints.

Depends on your definition of "normal"

There certainly are people of every "type" here....
