women in engineering

however its spelt, its cool... lsrc? what is that

it's the building beyond hudson hall and teer engineering library (which are just beyond fitzpatrick(ciemas)). It's pretty huge (and a bit odd-looking). Its full name is the Levine Science Research Center. I have a class there. Pretty interesting inside, many many labs, etc.

sounds cool, i havent been down that way.... I will someday :) are you in pratt?

The fitzpatrick center was under construction when I visited...(early May 2004). I've read up on it, the girl's bathroom floor is the genome for breast cancer..how cool is that?! Or, morbid, not sure which. But it sounds neat. I've also been in Teer and the one next to it, can't remember the name.

oh... ive only been down to duke once, and I didnt get to go inside many buildings.. just the library, cameron indoor, and a few others...

yes you definitely will. no i'm not in pratt but sometimes they just put random classes in the LSRC. My classroom specifically is actually in the section that is part of the Nicholas School of the Environment. Another building that's going up is the French Science Center. It looks really cool (though it may not be done for a while). You can see http://power.crosscomm.net:8080/admprojects/project.jsp?id=1 for details if you so desire. Many things are happening though... new public policy building opening this summer, huge library addition opening in the fall, new art museum opening in the fall, pavillion to replace the ugly Bryan Center walkway... yeah I'm really interested in this type of stuff haha. I find the architectural development of things pretty fascinating (kind of dorky, I know).

its cool though, its probably a pretty good time for new students at duke

What are my chances?

I would say, with your unique extracurriculars, research experience, and ethnic/gender factors, you should have a good shot at getting into Pratt.

very good shot.

Thank you.....You just lightenned up my day

The Fitzpatrick Center is just part of CIEMAS...

that's why I wrote fitzpatrick center/vinik building, if you look at post#20 on this thread.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone call it that. If any of you pre-frosh visit campus, just call it CIEMAS.

i'm just telling them the real name because when they're walking around campus, the sign in front of the bulding says "Fitzpatrick Building/Edmunt T. Pratt School of Engineering" or "Vinik Building/Edmund T. Pratt School of Engineering", not CIEMAS.

I'd be surprised if you didn't get an invite to Minority Recruitment weekend.

By the way ... did you spend a summer at the University of Moscow? That's quite impressive.

Joey

I spent 8 weeks in Puschino (about 100 km. south of Moscow) It is a huge research center. I worked in a lab with a group of 4 russians scientist. At the end I wrote a paper which I intended to present at the Intel competition, but I never had the time. I spent so much time with the Shakespeare club and the different plays we have presented in the last 2 years...... i hope Duke sees through this

if you want to see more of CIEMAS, this is a good site I ran across
