I am looking through old posts regarding this topic. Anything new since 2012?
My daughter, incoming senior, crossed over from club soccer to rowing last year. She is 5’7", just over 120b, 3.8 GPA unweighted, 1350 ACT, ERG 7:40. What are colleges that are realistic for her to apply to? We are from CA, so not familiar with East Coast schools. Would love to get some input.
Thank you.
Hi. I don’t know too much about LW programs as my D is an open weight. But from seeing the girls on her club here in the Northeast, there are a limited number of LW college programs and many seem to be at top academic schools. The competition is thus pretty intense. Your D may want to consider looking at both LW and HW particularly if she can get her 2K into the 7:30s or 7:20s. Otherwise the old advice of ‘email the coaches’ seems to hold true. They’ll let you know if they’re interested. Good luck.
University of Wisconsin has a strong women’s LW program, excellent academics, and beautiful campus. Their boathouse is on campus which is nice. They have some summer rowing camps which may be looking into to see if a Midwest School would be a good option for your daughter. My LW daughter went last year and fell in love with UW Madison.
