So, who has applied? Has anyone received a decision yet?

Applied. Nothing yet though.

I applied. I think I read somewhere that they will send notifications on October 7.

Anybody got news yet?

I’ve heard nothing back so far. I can’t stop checking my email frantically! Looking at the WOD posts from past years, they received their acceptances around this time. I think they email you a reply whether you get in or not, so I don’t think we have anything to be worried about yet.

I heard somewhere that they will send notifications by October 7th too. Today’s October 9th! In the past years, the notifications have always been e-mailed. Do they send notifications to those who have been rejected much later? I’m really nervous. I was really hoping I could get in. :(

Everyone-calm down! This week had Mountain Day which may have set admissions back a day. Also, it’s fall break currently, so they won’t be opening back up til Wednesday. Don’t panic

SO I suppose we won’t be notified until Wednesday. This is going to be a long wait.

I hear the admission rate to WOD is around 20-25%…sigh, but best of luck to you all!

Thanks rocket6louise! I can relax at least a little bit now…

Not to cause your worry to re-instate, but the admissions office, like most of the offices on campus, works through Mountain Day and Fall Break, they don’t close for days that students have off, they have their own opening/closure schedule that’s semi-independent of the academic calendar.

However, I would say that it’s much too soon to start worrying. I don’t think I heard about WOD until late October/early November when I applied. Deep breaths everybody.

I just received a letter in the mail from Smith about the Women of Distinction program. I wasn’t aware that they mailed it too, but, anyways, I was rejected. Ugh. This means I’m not going to be able to visit any of my colleges. I don’t know how else to show interest besides interviews.

Larentia schools really do understand that not everyone can travel long distances to visit - Smith most likely has alumna interviews somewhere reachable from your house. You can also indicate interest through the web site and through e-mail or facebook with admissions officers. Also most schools consider the interview just a small part of the admissions process.

Thanks for the insight. I’m just worried sick as I’m sure a lot of other people are. Good luck to everyone else though!

Hello Larentia,

I was rejected too and it hurts because I really really really wanted to be a part of the program. It is definitely a very selective program, but that won’t discourage me from applying to Smith! For those who were selected, congrats! and hope you guys all have fun. :)

I’ve still heard nothing back. At this point I assume either my rejection letter is on its way or that there was a submission problem on my guidance counselor’s end. Oh well, I’ll still apply for Smith RD. I think all of us who didn’t get in should consider the Bridge Pre-Orientation program for incoming admitted minority students. It is super cheap and does not appear to be a competitive process.

I checked my e-mail like billion times a day since Oct 7 and well then finally got my heart broken when I received my rejection letter on Oct 10. Anyways, I still planned to apply early to Smith, because I’m so addicted to this school, like I really love it and can imagine myself being there and everything.
But I just received my invitation for a campus trip to Tufts University with all fees covered on Oct 13, and now I’m really wondering whether this trip will change my mind about which school to apply early.

HPdaKing, why are you interested in applying Early Decision to a school? If you are not 100% certain you will definitely go to whatever school you absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, and you are willing to take whatever financial aid they give you (without a comparison to aid from any other schools), then you should apply Regular Decision.

@CarolynB: Ever since I was introduced about Smith by my mentor also a Smith alumna, I started to find Smith interesting in many aspects. The more I learn about Smith the more I love it, like the breath-taking campus (I took the virtual tour on the website), the amazing housing system and the experience people get there. I’m also excited about how creative and open the prompt in Smith supplement this year is. The only thing makes me concern is I always like schools with big-enough-campus in a big city where there are a lot of things to do. That’s why I apply to the WOD program, to see if 4 years at Smith would be totally enjoyable for me or if Smith is exactly the right place for me to be.
I did intend to keep applying early to Smith after I got rejected for the program. But now about to go to Tufts for a campus visit, and after doing some more research about this school, I’m really afraid I would end up loving Tufts more than Smith because of all the great things it offers. Also seeing how the environment/the diversity/everything in person would probably affect me a lot.
I’m still questioning myself I would be the happiest at where.
And I’m interested in applying ED to a school because I believe ED would give me a higher chance to get accepted to that school.

@HPdaKing I am too absolutely in love with the idea of going to Smith, but was worried about the small school/town environment. Then, I heard Boston is 2 hours away and New York City is 3 hours away. Also, they have Mega Buses in the area that can take you to NYC for literally $5 if you book your ticket early enough. I also assume that Smith’s small size contributes to the community feel and I’ve heard NoHo is a great town. I do agree with CarolynB about applying RD, especially if you plan on receiving aid (need and/or merit). You are more likely to be offered more aid if they are competing with other schools for your acceptance, which is not the case with ED. You can also show them the aid other schools are offering you if your first choice is not giving you the aid you expect. Also if you wait for RD and get accepted into Smith (ED or RD) you can go to Discovery Weekend all expenses paid in spring to see if Smith is the right college for you. It was mentioned on my rejection letter; this greatly softened the blow for me. :)
