It's just fair. Objections?

That would be nice, but it isn't gonna happen. You can call me a misogynist, but, being a girl near the military, it ain't gonna happen.

.-_-.

I think it's already hard enough for them to fill their quotas....

I think whoever wants to be in the military should. I don't think it should matter if they're a boy or girl.

Exactly ^.

.-_-.

Just to note, 'comprise' was used incorrectly in the title.

From Strunk and White:
'Comprise' literally means 'to embrace.' So animals do not embrace a zoo, zoos embrace animals.

This is why I believe in gender roles being equitable as opposed to equal.

Also nspeds I love that book.

According to Merriam Webster comprise means: to include especially within a particular scope and to be made up.

I would like to think that this argument has a little more depth then the definition of one word.

Sorry, I would take Strunk and White over MWebster's anyday. Also, Oxford American states: "consist of; be made up of; make up; constitute." The definition given by MW rests on a confusion of the term, according to Oxford American.

Thanks for giving me further reason never to trust MW!

"Comprise" is used correctly. Now, move on. You will be less productive if you dwell on perceived mistakes that aren't even mistakes.

I agree, move on; however, you did use 'comprise' incorrectly.

Nope. I'm a woman and I would never want to be in the military. It's definately not for me and no one should tell me that I have to.

It would not be "fair", because what if women don't want to be in the military? Just like a Draft isn't fair because not all men want to be in the military. Let people who want to be in it, in, and those who don't want to be in it, out.

Well in a draft, women aren't even registered.

Exactly, that is my point! In a draft men (and only men) are forced into the military. The point is niether the draft nor "50% of women must make up military forces" is fair.

I'm too lazy to type a full length explanation but basically:

male and females have different brain composition and homornes, resulting in the inherent difference btw the two genders. the number of female who desire to join the miltary will never equal the number of male, thus, female will never comprise 50% of the military.

It's a volunteer force. Leave it at that. If you are willing, ready, and able, you (probably) will not be denied.

I agree, but I think the OP meant (and how I interpreted it, at least) is that it should be made that women make up 50%, whether that means by drafting women or laying off men...whatever.

Lol, but after I typed that out ^, maybe I'm interpreting it incorrectly. Owell.

to comprise= to make up; to consist of

Women should comprise 50% of every military=Women should make up 50% of every military. Got it?

This is only a perceived mistake but is not actually a mistake. Therefore, I have every right to make this clarification.
