Women's Rowing Program

I have a D interested in rowing at UW. We are not very familiar with the program or the school. Can anyone give me an opinion on being a rower at UW? Does this require a lot of time outside of class? Are the rowers a close-knit group of girls?

Look it up on the UW website. There’s a huge newer boathouse on the lakeshore between Adams and Kronshage dorms. She can always sign up and find out if she likes it next fall. I looked up women’s crew on the UW site (sorry, not good at links). Typed in “women’s crew” in upper right corner of home page for a news link- found a women’s crew morning practice slide show- 6:15 to 8:15 am (perhaps the men have afternoon practice). Looked up women’s rowing under Badger athletics of student Life and found a roster of 37 women, plus stats/info for several years available. There’s also a summer rowing camp available. I know the summer camp for cross country was good.

UW operates a large women’s rowing program with both lightweight and open weight crews at all levels–novice/freshmen, JV and Varsity. Most are nationally ranked and highly competitive with scholarships available for outstanding prospects. The light crew has been national champ or near that level for several years.
It requires a fair amount of time–often early and is one of the most closeknit sports around. Academics are usually very high too.
