Hey everybody, I recently took Chem AP, and scored a 5. Since I have yet to take any SAT II's, I've decided on Chem for one of them.

Is there any major differences between Chem AP and Chem II?
-More math based?
-Concept-wise?

I've already been through the practice test on CollegeBoard to check out the format. As far as I can tell, that seems to be the only (?) major difference.

Also, are there any good study materials other than a chemistry textbook?

If you took the AP Chem, you just need to get a SAT2 Chem prep book to go through the review and practice. Go for the Barrons one. Nevertheless, you have missed the golden opportunity in taking that in June right after the AP. You should be able to get 750+ in it. It is harder to score an 800 in SAT2 Chem than a 5 in AP due to the curves.

I got an 800 on the Chem Subject Test. Compared to AP Chem, SAT II Chem is more concept-based than math-based. You shouldn’t be stuck on problems because you can’t do the math quickly enough. Also, the Subject Test seems to emphasize knowing chemistry facts (e.g. zinc is used to galvanize metals, mercury is liquid at room temp). These questions appear in the first section of the test.

I got a 4 on my ap Chem and 700 on Sat II chem. For me they’re both hard a.f but the Sat II has this really weird section. You have to say whether something is true or false which you dont have to do on the Ap test.

I don’t know if I was a fluke or what but I thought SAT 2 was really hard (no studying) and got a 660 (I know…) and a 5 on AP so

Thanks for your opinions guys.

@Arthur13: yeah, I know. I’ve tried a couple true/false ones. Those are really weird.
@kickemoff: Really? @-@

Anyone else have any other opinions? I think I may be ok for the most part. I study chemistry year round for Science UIL and Science Bowl, so I’ve seen the odd fact around.

Also, should I worry about flame test colors and little details like that?
