Wondering About College

Heya,

So I'm currently 22 and not in college. A few years back I took a couple semesters at a local community college but had to stop attending due to financial reasons. Fast forward to now and I find my self in a pretty solid financial situation with a steady job at a major company and I've been trying to figure out when would be my best time to head back to college.

My credentials aren't all that great. I actually dropped out of high school when I was 17 because I couldn't stand it. Got a GED and took my SATs, scored something like 1280/1600, never bothered with my ACTs but I may take them if they'll help.

I'd really, really like to go to law school, so I was thinking of finishing my associates then transferring to a state university and then figuring out where I want to go for my law degree later.

So really what I'm wondering is what should I do from here? Should I wait till I'm 24 so I can maximize my financial aid as an independent student, or just bite the bullet and pay out of pocket? Should I retake my SATs and/or take my ACTs, or is standardized testing really not all it's cracked up to be?

Thanks for any advice.

If you plan to return to a CC and then transfer to your IS public, you shouldn’t have to take standardized testing, which once you’re in college is rather redundant, except for some highly selective schools that ask for SAT/ACT from all transfer applicants.

Between your CC and the websites for IS publics, you should be able to gather the information you need.

As far as FA, that really depends on your family circumstances and would be difficult to comment on.
