Special Talents?
I am considering sending in a video supplement of my tuba playing. If I do not intend to major in music, could this still help? Could I say I am interested in music, and then later change my mind?

I am planning on applying to the following:
Princeton
Columbia
Duke
Carnegie Mellon
John's Hopkins
Georgia Tech
UNC Chapel Hill
NC State

What do you think my chances are for those colleges?

Also, would I have to submit my 2040 SAT because I need to submit subject tests? I really like my 34 ACT score, and I don't want my 2040 to affect my decision in a negative way. Will they disregard the SAT score and only look at the ACT? I much prefer the ACT, if it isn't obvious!

Anyway, thank you very much for anyone kind enough to submit their opinion!

Princeton: Reach.
Columbia: Reach.
Duke: Low Reach / Reach.
Carnegie Mellon: High Match.
Hopkins: Low Reach / Reach.
GATech: High Match.
Chaptel Hill (In State?): Match.
NC State (In State?): Safety.

No, you do not have to submit your SAT Reasoning test with your SAT IIs. You can mix and match ACT with SAT IIs.

Very good stats. Reaches are there because of the extreme selectivity of the schools on your list. You have as good a chance as anyone else applying to get in.

[Chance back?](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1561112-w-m-ed-emory-etc-will-chance-back.html)

I don’t live in the USA, so I really can’t tell if your ECs are good or not, by American standards.
If you’re looking to get financial aid, I’d say most of those schools are reach. If not, then the last three could be match.
You GPA is BRILLIANT and so’s your class rank :stuck_out_tongue: what happened in the SAT there?!
But I don’t think you have to send SAT I scores. Most colleges ask for SAT/ACT + two recommended subject tests.
Aaaand what are you considering applying for? Because most schools like a math + bio/chem/phy. I don’t know how helpful US history is. Most of those schools you’ve listed are known for their engineering.
One last thing…chance me? You can find my post by clicking on my username

I’m considering applying for a major in history or political science, however for Georgia Tech and some other heavy math/engineering schools I plan on applying as an engineering major. I got a 630 on the physics SAT II so… Yeah I have to retake that. But I’ll go ahead and chance you when I have time, thanks for your response!

And I guess I’m not an SAT person. There’s a big difference between the two tests for some people. I guess I just really liked the ACT! Just goes to show you should take both. Also, the first time I took the ACT I got a 29, then this September I just found out I got a 34, so… Anything is possible I suppose.

That’s great then. I can’t bring myself to take another standardized test! :stuck_out_tongue:
And yeah, a lot of people I know prefer the ACT. I myself have never taken it though.
