My son applied to Temple back on October 20th. This is number one choice, and only wants to go here....putting all his eggs in this basket....he applied using the Temple Option, and they reviewed his questions on December 8th, but we still haven't heard anything. He appears to meet all the requirements, GPA is 3.3, has EC's and great recommendations. Wondering what people's thoughts are on his chances of being accepted?

i checked on cappex and plenty of kids with a 3.3 got in according to cappex. that’s the best answer i can give you, what is his intended major?

Thanks for responding. I had checked Cappex too…was just curious what others thought. He plans to major in Film. When we visited, he absolutely fell in love with the program.

cool. my son is in media studies and the tv studio is what sold him on Temple, he wants to be a film or voice actor so if your kid needs a volunteer, look us up!!!

Media studies is a great and highly competitive program at Temple. GPA is one factor which he is an average one for a Temple student, however, having a good essay and standardized test scores would only help him.

I hope your son gets in, but he should apply to some other schools where he is guaranteed admission before deadlines pass.

i have to agree with mommdc; he should apply to at least one safety that is affordable for the family. hopefully, it won’t matter, he’ll get into Temple but best to have a backup on hand

I applied around the same time your son did with an unweighted 3.3. I got in. I had other things on my side, great reccs, leadership in extra-curriculars, high scores in reading on the SAT. But I think he’ll be okay. I would check the status of his application because if he applied two months ago, he really should have heard back by now.

make sure you check the spam folder in your email. My son’s acceptance was in his for a week before he finally saw it.

Check your TUPortal. You have to look under “application” and “2015 application” to find the status. That is how my D found out she was accepted to the program she applied for (BFA at Tyler). The emails only indicate general university admission. The portal will say Admission decision: accepted/declined. The Major line will say Film or Undeclared. If it says Undeclared that means you did not get into the film program.
If you are admitted to the university but not the film program you should talk to an admissions officer to find out if it is possible to transfer into the film program after you start. My S applied in 2011 and was accepted to the U. but not the program he applied for (music composition), and was told he would not be able to transfer in. But I know many other porgrams allow it.
If it’s any consolation, my son’s essays were completed on 12/6 and his application is still listed as “waiting for essay review” on tuportal. I emailed admissions about it this week and they said to just wait it out and keep checking the portal. I imagine that they may have received more Temple Option applications than they expected, and it is taking longer to go through them.
Thanks everyone, he was accepted and on his way in a few weeks.
That’s great news!
i think he will love it. Welcome to the Temple family!
Thank you! We are hoping. We are all nervous, but excited for this new chapter in his life.
Hello @carlareardon can you tell me whether or not the temple option was difficult?
No. Not at all. And my son had a great first year! He’s heading back in a couple of weeks. Let me know if you have any other questions. I know how stressful this time can be!
