wondering about rice

how does rice treat gay people? i heard that its pretty liberal, at least for being in TX.

^--- wow that was COMPLETELY uncalled for.

joshb110, i don't know about rice specifically (although i do know that the school i'm attending this fall, nyu, is probably the most accepting of gays), but you might want to post this topic in the rice forum:

oh.. for awhile i thought you mean the food rice. im like .. food treats gay ppl equally

hahaha lol

dont worry about him, we all know about his misguided views.

Lawrence is supposed to be known for a large % of gay guys but its so small that there would probobly be more gay guys total at a larger school.

Liberal arts people are really accepting, so I would assume that there would be a great viewpoint towards gays.

Rice is in Texas... hint hint.

i thought you were a big Bush fan there vinny?....damn and i thought he was gone for good

and yes, Rice is very tolerant of homosexuals....most schools located in urban/suburban areas will be tolerant of homosexuality.

my sister goes to Rice (i go to smith, probably one of the most queer-friendly schools in the country) and when I visited her over spring break I wondered the same thing. The gay community seems small but visible--I saw ads for a primarily queer coffeehouse with a local alum performing, and I know there's some sort of glbt club on campus. My sister was a bit nervous about the political climate of TX in general, being a democrat from NY, but overall I think she's found Houston, and particularly Rice to be a lot more politically diverse and tolerant than she expected. She might post on here herself, but she's taking a Rice course in the United Kingdom for the next few weeks and I figured I'd get my 2 cents in, in case she doesn't.

Even UT Austin is pretty liberal. If you look at the 2004 election statistics, Travis County went 58% for Kerry.

Houston is very gay friendly...I don't know about Rice specifically, but I would think it is too.

Rice is very gay friendly. I think there's a pancake house dedicated to them or whatever. Anyways, the students there seem to not care whether if someone is gay or not. Of course there is always going to be some dumb idiot somewhere who won't be friendly towards you but hey, who cares about them?
