I was recently accepted into the BFA Acting with Musical Theater Emphasis program at Southwestern. I was also accepted at Oklahoma City University into their musical theater program. I was wondering if anyone here is part of the theater program/seen any of their shows and can give an unbiased, honest opinion on the caliber of their work? OCU was my top choice, but with the impressive scholarship I'm getting at Southwestern, it's cheaper to go there than OCU. Thanks in advance!

Go over to the Musical Theatre forum and talk to AlexaMT. She has some friends in the MT program at Southwestern.

Did you get both merit and talent awards?

My daughter and I visited SU last fall. I loved the campus and the theatre facilities are nice. We saw a production of “Pinocchio” that was decent.

Relative to OCU, you should have a much better chance to be cast at Southwestern.

Thanks, arrdad. I received both types of scholarship. I know I would get cast much more at Southwestern, but I’m also considering the quality of the classes and training I would receive.

Congrats on the scholarships. You must be talented and smart. Hopefully someone will get on here to help you differentiate between the two programs. Again, I encourage you to wander over to the Musical Theatre forum and search out for AlexaMT. She is going thru the same process you are right now, plus she knows some kids in the theatre BFA track at Southwestern.

As a parent, I’m trying to convince my daughter that a smaller program like Southwestern might be a better fit than the more competitive programs like OCU. But at the end of the day, the kid has to go with their own gut feel.
