Hello, I’m thinking about using FLVS, but I want to make sure it won’t hurt my chances of getting to the colleges I want to get into it any other good colleges. Just for reference my top 2 colleges right now are West Point and FSU. I just wanted to make sure before doing FLVS that I would be prepared for college and get into the ones I want.

My daughter goes to a US high school on a military base overseas. We are Florida residents and she has taken a few classes each semester through FLVS. The school here gives her free periods to work on them and adds them to her transcript but it’s clear that they are FLVS classes to colleges who evaluate them. She was accepted into every college she applied to - including top 30 LACs and state schools like UMass Amherst and Virginia Tech. I know this isn’t your exact situation but still somewhat relevant. My daughter actually thinks she’s connected more to some of her FLVS teachers than her in-person ones. She used recommendation letters from the local teachers but I’m betting her virtual teachers would have been happy to write them as well. I’d suggest engaging with them and joining the virtual clubs and getting really involved if you go this route. Good luck!

It depends on the public school and the FLVS classes you take. We’ve lived in many different districts and there is a wide variety of quality. Some of the classes she’s taken, AP and higher level honors math in particular, have been higher quality than our current public school. My daughter takes classes through FLVS Flex so she has a lot of freedom with the pacing as long as she completes a certain number each week. We haven’t used the full time FLVS program so I’m not sure how that compares. Maybe you can go on some Florida groups on Facebook or elsewhere and ask about any relevant experience. Good luck!
