WOO HOO SUNet IDs

Did anyone get the letter yet on how to sign up your sunet I.D. I just got mine now and I am super happy.

yea i got mine on saturday, but when i made it and started logging in, it just rerouted me to the first login page

kinda weird

o and the password thing is so ghetto, you can't have any dictionary word, not even if it has a number at the end of it i.e. cant have dog1, cat123, pizza3431

i had to spell my word out with numbers, it felt like i was typing out a screen name

Not only that, it won't even let me have something like d0g1

I have a feeling I'm going to forget my ID/password and wind up as a drifter

When signing up for your SUNet ID, keep in mind that you are allowed to have two e-mail aliases which can be changed at any time. The only restriction is that the aliases must end in your last name. So if you want something generic like johndoe to put on your resume, you could make that an alias and pick a cooler name for your login.

dang it, well too late now

do people just usually use their last name or something?

People usually do, but my point is that you can always choose a more original SUNet ID because you're allowed to have 2 aliases that include your last name.

Did you guys already send in your replies to stanford?

No, they just sent a letter with a Stanford ID number so you can sign up.

I'm hedgehog :)...hedgehog@stanford.edu would be so fun...

I got my ID number and everything, but the website says it doesn't recognize the number. Go figure.

Avalon, maybe you really didn't get into Stanford and they are lying to you ;) jk.

The ID number should be 8 digits, so if your ID number has 9, leave off the first zero.

Mine has 8 digits. N1bigdude -- that has crossed my mind many times! I guess I'll just try to e-mail them.

Mine said it didn't work th first time but then I tried it again..........I think their system's not perfect yet

has anyone turned in their reply card yet? i really want to, but my counselor wants me to wait to hear from other schools. i'm having trouble being patient. what happens when you send it in?

you're committed to going to Stanford when you send it in. if Stanford is your first choice and nothing in the world could make you change your mind, then go ahead. otherwise, if you think you might get into a school you like more/get more financial aid/some other reason, don't send it in quite yet. there's no benefit to sending it in before May 1.

basically, be careful about picking your sunet id. you'll be typing it a LOT when you do get here (like, 5 times a day), so you'll want something as short and easy to remember as possible. this is the only place which doesn't have to have anything to do with your real name -- your sunet id could be pajamas, which would give you the email address pajamas@stanford.edu, and then you can just set up aliases of RealName@stanford.edu and SomethingElseThatEndsInMyLastName@stanford.edu

your webspace -- when your sunetid account does get converted to full access upon matriculation -- will be <alias or="" sunetid="">.web.stanford.edu or <a href="http://www.stanford.edu/people/">www.stanford.edu/people/</a><alias or="" sunet="" id=""></alias></alias>

hope this helps--

where do we log in again?

........you know, the place where we can see course listings and everything?

<a href="http://axess.stanford.edu%5B/url%5D">http://axess.stanford.edu</a></p>
