Woodberry forest chances.

I’m applying for 10th grade at Woodberry, and I’m going to be honest, my grades this year were not very good. I made 4 B’s and 1 C. I have amazing recommendations, and some good extracurricular activities. My SSAT score was a 65% And I am not applying for financial aid(if this matters at all). Do you think I have a chance of being accepted?

Since Woodberry has a 47% admit rate, admission to WFS would not seem to be an obvious impossibility with those scores and grades, but no one can answer your question with any precision. We don’t know the difficulty of the courses you are taking, what kind of school you are currently attending, or the sports, music or academic interests that your extracurricular activities include. The Woodberry admissions team will have all of that information. They will also know how you compare to other boys who have applied or been accepted to WFS from your school.

There probably will be 10-20 new 10th grade boys who enroll. You could be one of them, but maybe you want to have a backup plan in case you aren’t. Over half of the boys who apply do not get accepted. The school does not publish its 10th grade acceptance rates separately; they could be higher or lower than that.

Your chances at Woodberry are going to be better if you have a legacy connection, but that could be as simple as a distant relative or family friend who is supporting your application.

Your chances at Woodberry are going to be better if you are applying from a jurisdiction other than Virginia or North Carolina, especially if it is some place like Idaho or New Mexico.

Your chances at Woodberry are going to be better if you play at least one of its team sports at a high level.

There are a lot of factors to admission. Even if you are legitimately concerned about your grades, you really don’t have anything to lose by applying so you might as well apply. Just make sure you have a fallback plan if you don’t get the answer you want.

And if you don’t need financial aid your chances are significantly higher than if you do.
