Daughter received Woodrow today. 1250 sat. 3.85 unweighted, 4.69 weighted.
( 4.78 gpa recalculated by USC). 7 APs and all other core classes are honors.

Will the Lieber scholarship be sent out in a different letter?

That’s how it worked when D got it.

Sent from my XT907 using CC

when do the capstone scholars letters go out?

Cooper:) 1460 / 4.6. We are in PA

Cooper 1390/3.8(out of 4). In NY!

Woodrow:) 1260 SAT 3.7 GPA From NY!

Just got letter for McKissick - 30 ACT and 3.97 uw in Louisiana, got honors letter last month.

USC seems very “holistic” in its approach to honors and scholarships.

S got McKissick 1350 / 4.2 in PA, as per December letter. Did not get honors, hoping for Capstone.

Yankees…definitely holistic for honors…those essays really count since they get lots of qualified students based on scores and GPA. ECs also count a lot. For scholarships, it’s all scores/GPA…

There is definitely a method to their madness, just don’t know exactly what it is. S got McKissick, but not honors. Scores are respectable, not the greatest out there, but good. He’s got outstanding EC’s (Eagle Scout, President Leo Club, Sec NHS, Student Senate, leadership awards, multiple sport varsity letters, p/t jobs). Was accepted to honors at Clemson, Pitt, JMU, Bentley and Scholars at UMD. Still hoping for Capstone. However, as a parent, I prefer the scholarship, so I’m happy.

There is a protocol for applying to the Honors College once at school.

Yocco1…exactly in same boat as your son. I actually think capstone might be a better match for me than honors.

My son as well - Eagle Scout, NHS, varsity swim team, part-time job as a lifeguard, tons of community service. 3.9 GPA (USC recalculated)- not enough for honors but hoping thats enough for Capstone. It looks like a couple folks got an invite in the last day so hopefully this week we’ll all get letters. :)

I’m thinking Capstone is similar to U Maryland College Park Scholars… it is like a second-tier residential honors program, but seems geared for kids who are more community service/EC oriented, maybe a tad more well-rounded, rather than purely academic based. Like you, Yankees3311, I think Capstone would be a better match for my son than honors. What other schools are you/your sons seriously considering?

For those who didn’t get into Honors this time, you can reapply during the school year to transfer in. When I was a senior in high school, one of the professors in the Honors College came and spoke to us about writing strong college essays, but he also told us about students not getting into Honors first-time around and then reapplying as freshmen and doing extremely well. Definitely something to consider for people who wanted the Honors College experience at USC.

Yocco1…For me it has come down to University of South Carolina and Indiana University. Will make my decision next week. My brother is at the University of Maryland and started in the Gemstone program but switched to general honors because of the time/projects that were involved with Gemstone. He really likes the school but the crime around the campus has gotten really bad this year.

Yankees3311… Interesting about the crime… I wasn’t overly impressed with the area around MD’s campus, although the campus itself was nice. S got a President’s Scholarship there, but only $2K/yr, which is a drop in the bucket with their OOS tuition. Good school, but unless he gets an outstanding FA package (doubtful), he probably isn’t going there. Still waiting to hear from Lehigh, Wake Forest, Bucknell, and Boston College. In the end, it will be about the best overall balance of school and price. Good luck with your decision!
