Woodrow Wilson Research

Does anyone have any info about the Woodrow Wilson Research Program? I was named as an alternate and I was wondering how many other alternates there are and what my chances would be to get in the program. Thanks!

I got in to that program, but I don;t quite know what it is about? It sounds like something you might be able to apply for as well.

As far as numbers -- though not official -- about 50 admitted students have been offered the Woodrow Wilson Research Fellowship. About 15-20 students are selected as alternates. Alternates will be awarded the fellowship if less than the expected number of currently selected fellows choose to enroll at Hopkins.

As for what the fellowship is, read this:

"The Woodrow Wilson Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program is a unique program designed for undergraduates who believe that, of all academic endeavors, independent research offers the greatest intellectual challenge and reward. Students who enjoy working independently or are excited by the prospect of doing original research are those who should seek the Wilson Fellowship. Throughout all four undergraduate years, Wilson Research Fellows work closely with faculty mentors on independent research projects. Each Wilson Research Fellow receives a stipend, distributed over four years, of $10,000, which supports research costs including relevant travel, equipment, and use of archives or laboratories. (The stipend does not count as financial aid.)

Selection of Wilson Research Fellows is based on academic merit and the strength of applicants' proposals for independent projects. The humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences are represented equally in the program."

admissionsdaniel, can a student apply for the grant after the first year?
