Hello! Daughter just got placed in Woodside apartments as a sophomore transfer. She had been hoping to be in a dorm, preferably in a single. Anyone have any thoughts on the apartments? Daughter is not a drinker. Is it walkable to campus or does she need the shuttle? There is a kitchen- are they supposed to cook their own meals or can they use the dining hall? I’m sure she’d do breakfast in her apartment, but might not want to be cooking lunches and dinners. Any thoughts and information would be appreciated!
My daughter was in the Gables apartments last year. She had a single room, but some of the other girls shared a room (I think there were 4 rooms with 5 girls). She opted for 150 swipes per semester so she could eat some meals in the dining hall. She ended up only using 60 the first semester and rolled the rest over to spring.
Gables is far from the main campus area. It looks like Woodside is in a similar location. It is not an easy walk to campus. Daughter ended up buying a cheap used bike and riding that to class, library, and gym a good portion of the year. There is a shuttle that worked well for her the first 2 years.
She did take her car out with her, but she had to park really far from her dorm. You can also use the ZIP cars on campus. She used them for grocery shopping and the like.
My daughter is not much of a drinker (related to some health issues). She has not felt pressured to drink on campus. In fact, NH is very strict with underage drinking. She has been stopped walking across campus with a water bottle to have it inspected by campus police.
Hi, Woodsides are closer to campus than the Gables. They are behind the Whittemore Center arena and not far from Stillings Dining Hall, which she can certainly use. Like the previous poster mentioned, buying a 150 meal plan might be a good idea. The apartments do have a kitchen. They are a little run down but not bad. Welcome to UNH! I’m a parent of a senior…
Thank you for your help @Polar2000 and @Lillyanya!
