Um, I was trying out for crew that week and I didn't go out Friday or Saturday. And I have a job at UVA Catering. Now, my time management is really horrible, but I certainly didn't work on that at the last minute -- I had worked on that for several days, and I spent more than 12 hours in total on that, not counting other homework or problem sets.

But I can't change anything now. How did you first ever lab report experience go, my dear shoebox??? Did your first weeks go perfectly??

Design a new COD, make new door locks...you're paying $40 000/yr to study, not build useless stuff.
Designing a new COD is totally different from making new door locks. Plus, something meant to be done in your spare time. The 6,000 / yr I'm accumulating in loans + 2000/yr EFC (which happens to be covered with a 2,000/yr scholarship) is for CLASSES. I mean, you might as well say that people are spending 40,000 a year partying .... like no one ever heard of HOBBIES or JOBS? Like really, if they hire students to be front desk receptionists at Newcomb, or Alderman Library, etc. where you're idle 75% of the time, clearly, that student is wasting 40,000 / yr by not dedicating the entire 24 hours to some form of study.

I won't even comment on the "public solutions out of hacks".
The internet started out as one big hack ... so did Linux. Actually facebook and google also started off as student hacks.

(Actually you don't need new door locks, since IIRC, the card reader is connected by wire to the door. You would just have to replace the magnetic card reader with an RF receiver...?)

I seem to remember getting a 98% in my Chem Lab first year. And we had to write TWO abstracts a lab, one for the pre-lab work, and one for the post-lab work.
And, hello, we all go to class too. It's not like us social drinkers are horrible people with no lives. Not all of us broadcast our jobs and loans and crap looking for sympathy.

And 12 hours, GOSH! That's terrible!! With your outlook on life and college, you're going to have a miserable four years here.

W TF? I'm not looking for sympathy. I'm looking for how hard it will be to get a good grade if I've already messed up my first two labs, and whether a difference between say, 90% and a 98% will show up on my transcript, etc. or whether I've made it really hard for myself now by basically screwing away whatever "buffer zone" I had on the simpler labs. Basically, like a chances thread, but for a good grade, not admissions.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA oh Canuck01 you sinned, you're going to burn in you-know-where ;) jk
Did you hear him the other day at Newcomb, ranting about women? He was like "women aren't always inferior. They're better in the kitchen, where they belong!" I wish some people had rushed in on him, the two women cops probably wouldn't have done a damn thing.

I guess I can just kiss those pearly gates goodbye...

I didn't hear his rant on women, but I heard the rant on gays, drinking, abortion, masturbating, sex and just about anything else under the sun. I think any guys walking past him should affectionately hold hands, carrying a handle of Jack in the other hand.

Don't worry, that'll fit fine on the shoulder. I guess you'd need to wear pants half way down your ass (which I've got a feeling is illegal in Virginia) to get the full effect though.

Nah, man. Slap on some skinny blue jeans and an "Obama2008" shirt. Maybe some aviators. And some rainbows (kill them animals for some $30 shoes!).

Disclaimer: I like my Rainbows. And my jeans.

I didn't know he was called Brother Micah until I read Cav Daily today. And he preaches at Newcomb? I only saw him at the amphitheatre. Besides, he has plenty of student support already. I think yesterday one student was standing next to him, imitating his every move.

Speaking of the Cav Daily, can't they use some better subtitling?

Republican candidates address conflict in Iraq, Obama’s use of earmarks on bills; group of Democrats criticizes McCain, Palin for failing to address some key issues
I like how the first two lines are particularly lucid about what the Republicans said whereas the last line makes it seem as though the Democrat criticisms were protests in vain. I don't think it was intentional, but "key issues" is sooo sooo crystal-clear.

galoisien, I have an idea for you. It's in response to the countless number of improvements that you keep suggesting for the school.

Just do them yourself. You seem to have enough time to argue about the most trivial things and maybe it should be your "first year project." Just go around grounds, and stick post it notes on what you want to fix. I'm sure you'll run out of post it notes because you seem to find a flaw in everything. Just suck it up and grow up. Really. You were the one who kept bringing up your financial status before you came to Uva and now that you're at UVa and you're not the one paying for these expenses, there's so much to fix. If you really want, devote your time and money. I would prefer to keep my tuition money (which btw, is about 18,000 and for out of state is 40,000. canuck pays more for one year than you pay for 4.) for attracting new professors and building better facilities to help build the reputation of the university and providing for resources for students. I would rather have better labs to conduct research in. I would not, however, be happy if my money was being used to switch out all the keys/locks for swiping. And the $40,000 people pay for OOS happens to be tuition, room and board, and other misc expenses. Don't assume that everyone is in dire straits and gets financial aid. If the CavDaily needs fixing, then go write for it. If you want ISIS and the COD to be fixed, do it yourself. Come up with solutions, don't bring up more problems (or try to find problems with things that are fine.) Galoisien, as smart as you may be, it's worth jack if you don't apply it to something. Frankly, I'm disappointed. Do you want to know why? I put myself out on a limb and defended you and thought, you know what, he doesn't deserve all the stuff people put him through. But I take that back. Because I think you need it so you stop being so idealistic and trying to put extra work on everyone else.

DB and Powderpuff probably know what I'm talking about when I say "zip wallet in Hoile Toile"
yes ma'am, I know exactly what your talking about. and since when are rainbows $30? I paid $50 for mine.

Hey come on, I don't find them flaws. I love the school. It's just the idealist in me. I don't like things to be good, or very good. I like them to be perfect. ;) (Okay, I'm not saying this is excusable but I don't want to be called ingrateful when I am in fact, very grateful.)

(You guys complain about how Newcomb sucks compared to O'Hill, I actually find it to be pretty decent, so see? We find different things that could be better.)

My COD suggestion was more serious than swiping, which was not really a suggestion. OMG, don't put them in the same category. :(

Newcomb isn't better, your perceptions are distorted.

shoe and db, my rainbows were $50 too, but if you've got someplace that sells them for $30, I'm all ears. Also, those lovely little wallets with a key ring are very practical for a girl, but I'd never use one.
