woohoo! Alcohol-wise course.

I'll give you that one. But it really is worth the walk to Runk or O'Hill.

Where do you live again? ;)

Now, I will purposely go to the AFC or go to office hours at Gilmer Hall / Chemistry simply because I plan to eat at O'Hill after. Kill two birds in one stone, etc. But damn, I'm not walking all the way from Ivy/Emmet to Alderman/McCormick just to eat. ;)

Crazy Preacher: "The crackwhores in Charlottesville are all going out of business. The girls here give it away for free!" HAHA

canuck: also, you've eaten at Runk? Is it as good as O'Hill, or substantially different enough from O'Hill that I will want to take Northline all the way to Runk just to eat there?

Ya, I ate at Runk the other night. It's at least as good as O'Hill, if not better. If you're hungry before 10 pm one night, take the bus up and try it out. The people are nicer there, and there are no lines.

i eat at runk every night, and i am not sick of it -- yet. Ask me again in a week and i'll say im sick of runk.

hereford dining woo!!!

Is it true that they have hard ice cream at Runk?

And oh, I just got my lab report back. The funny thing is, I didn't get penalised for not attaching an abstract, since apparently it wasn't supposed to be a full report and I must have misheard the lab lecture. But, all our average grades were like 60/75. Not double-spacing -2; improper use of null hypotheses -2; too much elaboration one type of follow-up experiment and too little elaboration on another -2; not using formal statistical analysis to strip outliers -2 (even though they were clearly impossible values for a coin to have); improper labeling of axes -4; not formally making a new explicit hypothesis, rather than a mere recommendation for a new hypothesis -1; use of "naked numbers" in tables -1; etc. etc.. Well at least we have two weeks' of office hours for the next one...though I'll probably lose 10/(100?) points for not typing my prelab. Yeah, I don't think I'll ever type up a report without letting an external authority vet it ever again .... it sounds obvious but it was not something that was necessary in my low-quality high school.

db123, aren't you in Chem 181 too?

You need to seriously learn to read and follow directions.

The whole "low-quality high school" thing is just another dumb remark. A lot of went to public school here, you're not that special. And, THIS IS COLLEGE! DUH! Of course work is going to be more complex and require more from you.

Stop making excuses for everything.

db: it's actually Hope Toile. Doh. I love the pattern, I'm so mad it's discontinued. I love the wallet.
Canuck: they make them in blue and green and black ya know ;) You'd be so stylish with it! Hah

There many times when you need to follow directions to the T, labs are one of them. Read the instructions carefully, and follow them. Highlight, underline, etc the key points if you need to.

Chem 141 I think.

It's a nice pattern, and they are quite practical...the blue and green would even match my wellies (which are still sitting nicely at home). But, I'm not going to be the only guy walking around with a Vera Bradley wallet, and it doesn't fit in my back pocket.

A lot of people asked about 181 sometime ago ... so who here is in Harman's class too?

And Shoebox, you totally misinterpret me lol ... I don't think I've met a single private school student, yet. But it's like everyone else went to a magnet high school (definition: magnet high schools are high quality public schools) or something, and learnt to type extra-pretty colourful reports with advanced diagrams. (Contrast: 50% of my graduating class will be going to a two-year school, and trust me, community college in Maine is WAY worse than it is in Virginia.)

And don't get me wrong, I'm not making excuses. Actually I'm more of remarking how it's a baptism of fire.

But, they never said that you couldn't use common sense (with a good reason, like, "It is unlikely that certain pennies would have had as much variation as .5 grams less than the average...) to remove outliers. I probably would have known if I knew everyone else went to the office hours to get the TAs to vet their reports, lol. (Still, I'm apparently one point below the average...). I thought I followed the rubric to the T, except for my omission of an abstract which was never penalised. I wouldn't want the marking to be more lenient. Still, baptism of fire.

*** are you talking about

Once again, it's college. You can't assume anything on graded work. And I didn't attend a magnet high school. My high school was pretty much bottom of the list in my area. I could care less too, I'm where I am today because of me. You should be taking that attitude too. Not saying you screwed up your lab report because you didn't go to a top high school.

Wasn't saying that either.

Or the old days when keycards were probably thought of as little paper cards a key came on, or something dumb like that, and you really did need a key for the front door. I have no idea whether in the old days, prior to electronic keycards, if the front doors of the dorms were locked.

[/QUOTE]
As recently as the late 80s/early 90s, which I realize is before some of you were born, students at some schools had real keys to unlock the front door of their residence halls at some schools. It wasn't a big deal to have two keys. Schools that had open doors had receptionists in the hall that would call residents when a visitor arrived.

There were paper computer cards, though! They were called punch cards.

Certain offices at the University use proximity cards ("prox cards") that work 1-3 inches away from the pad mounted next to the locked door. The cards themselves are fairly inexpensive, but I imagine the door unitsr are a little pricey.

I've gotten myself locked in that breezeway at 3 AM

You are a candidate for a lanyard. Get thee to the bookstore and buy one! They're only a few dollars.

I didn't know he was called Brother Micah until I read Cav Daily today.

Oh, I haven't heard of this person myself. Sounds like we finally joined the ranks of schools that have campus preachers. You can see loads of videos of campus preachers on youtube. Some students completely ignore these people and others engage them. Berkeley is a hotbed of this sort of activity.

I AM NOT posting my grades or EVEN discussing them on CC. what a stupid idea. and no, I won't help you.

I speak the language of shoe. I figured you were referring to vera bradley. I had one of those but wasn't too fond of it so then I bought a Coach keychain wallet (a "mini skinny"). Canuck, you should think about Coach. They make Men's wallets (I'm not sure if they come on keychains.) And when we moved in, they gave us these little zip wallets. Mine is in my car at home.

db: I was speaking of vera bradley, but I think I said the name wrong the first time. Oops. I like the old style of the zip wallet much better than the new rounder ones. Too bad they discontinued both the color and style :( yay for Ebay though! Coach is way to expensive, and I like being able to slide the wallet in my back pocket. And did Coach really give you something free?

on the topic of wallets-

i sport a money clip, all the cashiers and stuff give me funny looks when i am putting my money back in haha. Woo, procrastinating in clemons right now

I've been thinking about getting a Coach wallet, maybe now's the time to invest in a good wallet. I do have a Coach Passport wallet that I picked up at Costco. Every now and again Costco has some great stuff, I got a Tumi carryon bag for something like half price a couple of years ago there too.

pman, I use my Tiffany money clip every now and again, but I like having cash and credit cards close together.

shoe: UVa gave me some card holder. Not coach haha. and I definitely slip the wallet in my back pocket all the time. I'm talking about things like this:

Coach Official Site - mini skinnys

The top row aren't very good looking, but the next two are pretty good. I have a coach wallet but I only use that when I'm using a purse and not at UVa; I'm not willing to take a chance with that wallet getting stolen. So my wallet "wallet" is at home, but i suspect it's in my mother's purse right now, b/c I bet she's using it. The mini skinnies are pretty reasonably priced when you look at some of the other things Coach sells, And outlet stores have them all the time, so if you go up to NoVa, stop by the Leesburg Outlets and check the stuff out: same quality, smaller price tag. I bought 2 mini skinnies when I went 2 years ago, each was about $25. I still have them today and they work really well. Canuck, they also have men's accessories there and I bought my dad a wallet when I went for about $70, which was about half the price of the original. And for the mini skinnies, mine is definitely crazy full. I have at least 20 cards, 15 random money bills (this really adds bulk), a whole bunch of receipts, coins, and a few hair ties. The keychain it comes with is really sturdy, but I only keep about 4 keys and a keychain on it. So the skinny is small, but it can hold a lot.

Great deal! I'll have to stop there when I go to NoVa one of these weekends.
