Wooster/Denison

Does anyone have any thoughts on comparing Wosster and Denison?

Visited both in August and they seem very similar, and both quite wonderful. Wooster appeared more ethnically diverse – but that may have been the particular orientation day we were there. Also, distinguished by the Independent Study all students must complete. Both had building projects going on, which is a nice indicator of good alumi/endowment support.

Wooster was struggling to deal with the logistics (food, housing) of the large yield in their incoming freshman class this fall – don’t know how that has worked out or whether that will impact number they admit this year.

Denison also did a college info night in our area – lovely bunch of current students representing lots of different activities and interests. Would be glad to have my D among them.

If D gets in to Wooster (in at Denison), she’ll visit again to get better sense of classroom and student life feel.

Are you choosing where to attend or where to apply?

Thank for response. My S has been accepted at both.

Both are great small Ohio colleges with beautiful campuses. My impression is that Wooster has a slightly more diverse student body and Denison has a slightly more preppy vibe. I think the greek scene is bigger at Denison also. Perhaps your son should try and attend the accepted students day at both schools so he can decide which one is a better fit for him.

Both are great schools. My daughter got in at both several years ago, but chose Wooster because of the Independent Study project requirement. … She graduated in May of last year, was accepted into Teach for America, and turned down several full-ride offers to pursue an MA in art history and Medieval Studies, so that she could teach science lab at an inner city school in Houston. Her plan is to return to graduate school in a few years … though “her” kids are really wrapping themselves around her heart. Long story short, she’ll tell anyone that Wooster represented four of the best years of her life to this point. Her time there prepared her well for just about anything. Good luck to y’all!

My D is a freshman at Wooster. She is having an incredible experience (academically and socially) and it seems as though that incredible experience is fairly common among the students at COW - they seem to be happy, friendly and take their studies fairly seriously. Wooster is truly a hidden gem!
