<p>I wrote an essay which Microsoft Word claims is 623 words. However, when I pasted the essay into the box, the word count says 576 words. Why is this happening? This is for a supplement for a school by the way</p>

<p>I had this. Make sure you adjust the spaces between the various lines. As I adjusted them to my liking, they were too wide when I copy and pasted, the word count went up.</p>
