Word limit of CommonApp Essay

I recently came to know about the word-limit of the CommonApp Personal Essay - 250-500.

So, if I have a statement that has nearly 700+ words, am I in trouble? Will that be a negative thing in my application?

Is this limit thing really that strict? Confused - really need help here.

You’re good as long as your essay fits on 1 side using a font size of 12. 700 is way to much though and I strongly suggest that you keep it under 600 words. I got away with 575.

I think it does not matter so much as long as you can engage your reader with your personal essay. However, cut it short if you can and send remaining applications using shortened essay.

macmurderharder… If they ask you to write in about 500 words… try to do that… 550-600 is okay too… but don’t exceed that…

Remember, you don’t have to write your autobiography there… just give a glimpse and finish before they get bored…

P.S. – MY COMMON APP ESSAY WAS EXACTLY 500 WORDS
