Word Limit on Essay...SOS!

<p>Hello!</p>

<p>I finished my Common App Essay on Free Topics. When I counted the words, it went up to 850...I already did first editing and planning to go through the second editing. I am curious that if colleges do favor Common App word limit or they give mercy to the overlimit?</p>

<p>If my essay's number of words exceed the word limit, should I notify the colleges and see if I can send the essay separately?</p>

<p>It’s not a strict word limit. If you feel those extra 350 words are necessary, then leave it. Don’t mention anything about it.</p>

<p>Keep in mind that even the smaller colleges have to go through thousands of applications a year. Admission officers will value succinct and efficient writing.</p>
