Word of advice

I'm not sure if this has been addressed yet, but I wanted to give you all the heads up about something that most people don't think about until it's too late: Facebook and MySpace accounts.

If you have them, that's cool, so does pretty much everyone else here. However, don't put anything on there that you don't want your Beast cadre to see, or maybe make it a private account that only your friends can see. There's always at least one guy/gal known as "The MySpace Kid" during Beast because he had something ridiculous on his profile and his cadre caught wind of it.

On a similar note, it is great to be proud of your acceptance. Go ahead and put a picture of your acceptance letter up, post a bulletin saying that you got in, that's fine. But please don't make your Facebook/MySpace profile a flashy billboard broadcasting the fact. It's seen as bad form and a little too much like bragging. About once a month a cadet here will catch wind of just such a profile, send the link out to his buddies, and the person will get a bunch of crazy messages telling him to tone it down.

Good luck to all of you, I wish you the best, and I hope to see you around post next school year.

-N.V. '10

lol yeah, I've experienced that on my xanga feedback log: user USNA26thCO visited me. Oh boy...And he searched xanga for "USNA 2011" Luckily, I don't think I put anything bad, just that I was undecided between USNA and USMA. Oh boy lol. I sure hope they don't haze me TOO much. =S

Case in point: http://marionmilitary.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2221641661

Read the wall.

Triggs,

Could you summarize what it said or post a screenshot or something? I don't want to sign up for a facebook just yet but I am interested in what that links says.

Thanks!

I like the comment about the first half being "mostly academic testing"...

"If any of you know anything you will leave this group before your cadre get your names and make you targets. You have been warned, and we will be seeing you."

"Someone failed to tell you that cadets A) spend way too much time on facebook and B) love hazing candidates, new cadets and plebes. You're making it too easy for us."

"Can't agree more with Daigle, cadets look for easy ways to mess with new cadets and candidates - get off this group immediately. CBT Cadre have already been looking through this list and have your names, this is another warning, you would do well to heed it."
