Words in context questions

Well.. After many practice tests, I noticed that I get at least half of the 'words in context' questions wrong (In line 45 (word) most nearly means..). I know the definitions of the choices, but I just keep getting them wrong. Help!

Those questions are usually the easiest to get right for me. Don't assume a word-choice is the correct answer merely because it is A DEFINITION of the word. It has to be the right definition for the context. Try reading each of the words in the choices in place of the word in the actual sentence. Whichever one makes the most sense is always the correct one. It doesn't matter if you didn't realize the word could have that meaning.
