I'm currently a freshman and trying to decide to decide what I want to do this upcoming summer. I'm absolutely enthralled with the idea of working or volunteering abroad. Only problem is: How?

I know that there are many, many programs out there (Greenforce, ect.) where I can pay $2500 for the summer, and volunteer. But I don't have $2500!

Basically my question is this: Are there any websites/organizations that post/list jobs/volunteer opportunities abroad that don't have a $XXXX or even $XXX program fee?

Just as en example, something along these lines would be ideal: "Come work at [comapny/place] and we'll provide you with room and board as well as a small weekly compensation check."

Does something like this exist, or am I just shooting for the clouds?

I know that there are some gap year organizations that have expeditions which allow you to earn money as well. If you are interested in teaching, there are providers who do pay as well as include room and board. Greenforce, for example, has an Ecuador program which is paid.

If you are still looking at options, I found these websites really helpful.

MttP. are you 18? most likely you are. Try these 2 options which are basically free.
One is WWOOF - World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms where you can volunteer to work on a farm anywhere in the world...you just have to pay a registration fee to search farm locations.
The other is Volunteers for Peace. International Workcamps, Voluntary Service Projects, Volunteer Abroad, Volunteers for Peace
There you may have to pay a smallish fee ($300-$400) to the host organization. You will also need to pay your airfare. My daughter is doing the former this spring. Another option is to find the organization you are interested in working w/and contacting them directly.
