Is it difficult to lead a normal college life and work part time at the same time? I wanted to waitress for a restaurant or something to get money, but I don't want to waste my college experience.

If your school offers workstudy, take it. Most of the time it doesn't require that much work and you'll get some kind of job. I work int he computer lab and last time i spent all day playing shockwave games. hahaha.

If you don't need the money, don't work. You have the rest of your life to work...enjoy being a kid for as long as you can.

I think you should at least look for internships during the summer, or work a seasonal job (summer/christmas break). Employers like work experience.

I work. Seeing that direct deposit in your bank account makes you feel so much better. Not to mention all the spending money you could ever want. GET A JOB. Keeps you disciplined and builds character.

I agree. I'm paying for my own way (with loans of course) and it's making me appreciate my education that much more when I'm working 30+ hours and still at work at midnight (I work at Olive Garden).

I'm planning to get a job for the 2nd semester to raise money for drum corps(type in dci.org for more info). I'm also plannig to get a summer job so I can be financially stable; I can't let my parents pay for my school books and personal expenses during school.

It's gonna be hard though, taking 18 hrs, working, and exrtacurricular stuff...oh the joys and pains of life.

What do you play?

I'm going to get a job in college, but that's only because I want to be able to eat and have a place to sleep too!

Really, though, if I were you I would try to get workstudy or something that would be beneficial to your college experience and get you money at the same time- like working in a library, at a daycare center, or anywhere that would look good on a resume/be interesting.

Wabash: tuba = contrabass

enjoy getting a job afterwords with 0 job experience.. relevant or not...

Sorry, but I just don't see the point in working during school if you don't actually need the money.

Getting a summer job is totally different.

are you marching this summer (07)? It's my 2nd and final year with Crossmen.

"Sorry, but I just don't see the point in working during school if you don't actually need the money."

I go to college in NY. Money is imperative.

If you need it, work...but not everyone needs it.

Im sure many would agree it's a nice thing to have, even if it's not absolutely necessary.

I think the important thing to remember is to not get obesessed w/ earning money.

Easier said than done.

Yes, coming out of college with no work experience at all, relevant or not, does not help a person's job search.

I work 12 hrs/week at a place on campus. I think it's more convenient if you can get a job with the school, since they will schedule around your classes and you won't have to travel as far. It hasn't interfered with anything yet, since its during hours I would have spent watching tv.

I work fulltime (40+hrs a week) and go to school fulltime, and I would say that unless its necessary for your survival, don't do it. working part-time however, i would say definetly. its nice to make your own money, and even if it's not a job you want to pursue for the rest of your life, it's always good to have some work experience on your resume.
