Work Ethic

As a rising senior, the idea of attending college is starting to sink in as a reality. The time between freshmen year and now has flown by so fast, and yet I feel as if I haven’t worked too hard in high school. Don’t get me wrong, I have great grades (about a 3.7-3.8 GPA), a few 4s on AP exams, and a bunch of other stuff. However, I realized that this was me not really trying, which sounds EXTREMELY pretentious and I sincerely apologize for coming off this way. But as I enter my senior year, I really want to change and become a harder working person. I know it isn’t something that occurs overnight, which is why I want to spend my senior year trying to build the foundations of a solid work ethic. So the question is:

Do any of you in the College Confidential Community have any tips on how to develop a stronger work ethic? Is it simply developing more self-control, or something much more arduous? (Developing self-control is arduous in itself, so idk that last one didn’t make any sense)

(Apologies if similar question has already been asked.)

My accomplishments were similar, and I’ve done well in college even though my work ethic isn’t what it should be. The assignments are more difficult, but I adjusted pretty well. In some ways it’s easier, because nothing is due the day after it’s assigned like in high school.

Don’t look at everything through the lens of “no pain, no gain.” Schoolwork (or whatever) isn’t inherently painful just because it’s productive. If you’re studying something you like, the work should be fun on some level. Even if you’re not, it’s rewarding to get things done. Usually, the most arduous part of a task is gathering the motivation to start.
