Is there a great amount of weight on the number of years of work experience during college admissions? Will it look bad if I didnt get a job for my fresh, soph year but suddenly started working junior year on? Does the job itself matter?

this is a sort of common sense answer.

no, most top students don't even have jobs, so it is a plus. it is also hardly expected that you would begin work as a freshman (at 13 or 14 yrs old).

the only way for it to make a big impact in terms of admissions is if it is a prestigious job. however, a yr round job (a non-prestigious one) does help a bit b/c it shows you accomplished all your other EC's in addition to working.
