work experience - weird situation

<p>Ok. So I've never actually had a paid job.</p>

<p>But here's the situation: both of my parents are unemployed (my dad is disabled) and I am the only one in my house capable of holding a job.
I've wanted a job since I was 14, however, my mom will not let me get one because she wants me to focus on school.</p>

<p>Will it look like I was completely unhelpful in my family's situation and was absorbed in my own activities?</p>

<p>Maybe that's just a paranoid question, but I've really wanted to help my family financially and have never been allowed to.</p>

<p>it's kinda hard, because blaming your mom certainly won't look good in their eyes. perhaps you can explain the absence of a job (don't point fingers though) and instead tell about how, in other ways than a paid job, have you helped your family (taking care after siblings, doing household chores, etc)</p>

<p>say that your parents wanted you to focus on academics rather than a few 7 dollars per hour. it's fine</p>
