Is it acceptable to show work experience on my application from working at my dad’s website development company? I would really be working there, kind of as an intern, and I plan to go into computer science so it works out. Would colleges ignore this because it’s my dad or would they believe me? It just seems silly for me to go work at another website development company that is a direct competitor of my dad’s company. I’m worried because it may seem that I have “fake work hours” since it’s a family business.
I would not worry about it. State the name, what you do and the hours. You don’t have to say dad’s company.
