just wondering ... how much does work experience affect your college admissions? Also, if colleges wanted to verify work experience, would they contact your employer? How can I prove that I worked?

Usually you list the company, and considering your area, they could probably verify if they wanted to through a simple search. However, you agree that everything you write on that application is true, so I doubt they would do that unless they were really suspicious.

I think working is like another EC, and is weighted like that, but I'm not too sure.

I have the same question.... I don't have any work experience, but i do have volunteer hours around 200hrs (library and hospital)...

If you have a job, is it also necessary to have volunteer hours?

Okay. Calm down guys. The common app has a place for work experience because many students applying to college don't have the luxury to be able to volunteer, as many of them need to work to help support the family and their pending college plans. Basically, colleges just want to know whether or not you've been busy doing something constructive. Have you spent all your time hanging out, or have you spent your time volunteering at a library?
