I’ve worked for my parents although I wasn’t paid for it. I had to work after school and during the summer because my parents were out of the country for personal matters. Would that still count as work experience?

yea does anybody know?

also how would you prove that?

does volunteering during the summer count as work experience?

I think that would still count as work experience. You should explain the situation somewhere in the app, or have your counselor mention it in his/her rec.

Summer volunteering would count as an extracurricular, not work experience. It depends what kind of volunteering it was though..

Does anyone know if a minimally paid (i.e. the occasional gift certificate) internship (at a local newspaper) counts as work experience?

thank you orchidthief! i put my internship as work experience even though i wasn't paid for it at all. I think i read somewhere that an internship offers the same experiences as a job so it should be considered as one.

and i suggest putting volunteer work as an activity rather than work experience.

thanks guys. i decided to put volunteering into activities, but now i only have one thing filled in for summer employment and it looks inadequate. =S
