Work experience

Does prev. work experience for top b schools like Harvard and Columbia HAVE to be in i banking, finance, accounting, etc.?

My work experience during undergrad has consisted of:

--intern in NYC mayor's office
--paid intern in NYC Economic Development Corporation
--paid intern in publishing department of international education corporation (summer before freshman year)

plus I was a paid summer fellow @ Public Policy Junior Institute in summer after junior year

Is such experience adequate for top 5 b schools?

your prev WE does not have to be in ibanking, consulting, but big name company help. HOWEVER, internships do not count as full time WE. Unless you are a junior, you are not eligible for Harvard’s 2+2. To get into a Top 5 b school (which Columbia isn’t), you’ll need full time work experience.

your work experience more closely align with a MPP/MPA degree, or even JD for public interest.
