Work for international students

Are there any maximum amount that an International student can receive from on campus work per year?

I believe there is a limit…but I’m not sure what it is. But I will say…most on campus jobs pay a couple thousand dollars a year. Not much more than that.

I don’t think so.

How much do you need to earn from a job? If you are hoping to work 40 hours a week, or hope to earn enough money to pay for all of your college costs, in my opinion, you will not be able to do,either one.

Even if there is no limit to the actual amount you CAN earn working on campus…you need to be realistic about how many hours you will actually be able to work…and how much you will earn.

Agree with Thumper. My child works 10 hours per week in a lab (not work study) making minimum wage. About $300 per month.

Yes… that information is on your form 1-20. It states the total number of hours you can work during the regular semester and during summers.
less than 20 hours during the fall and spring semester and 40hrs during the summer. If you do the maths at say $7.50 to $8.00/hr depending on what your school pays that sums-up to on average. I would say, do not expect to make more than 4500/year… that is if it evens get there.
An Americans student can get internships, jobs off campus that pays much more and work less hours to make that much… the same is not for you, except you are trying to get deported for violating your visa requirements.

So come prepared, because what your school send you on your award estimates is going to be just that, at-least your first year. Few changes might happen if you are lucky your second and future years, like if you are lucky to become an RA, then that reduces your room and board expenses. Then again, do not count on it. American students are likely to apply for that position in huge numbers as-well.

In other words do not count on it for anything other than for books, and miscellaneous needs during the school year.

Keep in mind that you also have to pay a portion of your earnings in taxes. For a broke college student, this is annoying.
