Work Hard, Party Hard Schools

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight into schools that have a Party Hard/Work Hard attitude. I am looking for a school that has really good academics and a student body that can party hard; preferably a school administration that isn't ridiculously strict when it comes to partying too. Anyways, any ideas help!

PS I'm interested in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Intl relations

I have heard some MIT students claim this to be the case there.

Penn? Its academics are extremely good, and it’s known as the ‘Social Ivy’. Most of the students I met there definitely had a work hard play hard attitude. (Check out Spring Fling to get an idea of what the administration’s attitude toward partying is, haha.)

Many of the “big sports schools” are going to have a Party and academic atmosphere.

What are your stats?

Is money an issue?

Stanford works, I think. Dartmouth works better if you don’t care about engineering.

U Wisconsin is a painfully obvious choice here. It has everything you are looking for.

The University of Minnesota is worth a look too. It’s a Big 10 school that certainly has some parties, as well as the best ChE program in the country. Chem and IR are good too.

How much can you afford to spend?

I’ve known some Princeton people who are that way.…don’t know if the whole school is that way but I’d chose for academics first and I’m sure you’ll be able to find the party scene no matter where you go

Your stats and financial situation will likely determine many/some of your choices.

cornell is definitely work hard, play hard

University of Michigan comes to mind

Lehigh

top academics, particularly Engineering

14 in Playboy’s ranking of top parties colleges in the country a few years back

“work hard, play hard”

Duke, Stanford, Penn, Dartmouth, Cornell, Vanderbilt, UVA, Michigan…

^ Thats a good list

Definitely Wisconsin and maybe duke?

Bucknell, Colgate, Dartmouth, Lehigh, Penn, Richmond, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest, Washington & Lee

University of Wisconsin-Madison
University of Iowa- Iowa City
University of Illinois- at Urbana Champaign

UT Austin ?

Duke, Dartmouth, Holy Cross.

Rice… pretty lenient policies on alcohol. After all, it is a “wet” campus. Plus, it has top notch academics and strong chemistry, chem e, and pol sci departments (we don’t have international relations as a major). In addition, Duke, Dartmouth, Penn, Stanford, Vanderbilt, UVA, UNC-CH, and UT-Austin fit the “work hard, party hard” description. However, a lot of these schools don’t offer a Chem-E major (i.e. Duke, Dartmouth)
