Work or Sport

Hello all,
I am planning on applying to the Academy in the next admissions cycle, but I am wondering which of these two options would be best for me. I know that it really depends on the rest of the application and such, but any comments would be much appreciated.

Option #1: I run cross country at the JV level, this would mean three years on this team, as well as playing volleyball in the spring (hopefully varsity, possibly JV). Doing both of these sports means that I would not be able to work much, if at all during the off-season. (I am a lifeguard).

Option #2: I skip running cross country, and instead work many hours at the pool, as both a lifeguard, and a head-lifeguard (essentially a management position that supervises lifeguards). I would still play volleyball, as I enjoy it a lot and want to have at least one sport. There is also a possibility that I would end up becoming a webmaster for my church's website.

I welcome any comments to this choice, as I am really not sure which would be better.

Thank you!

Your choice, but USNA values athletics, and running XC will definitely get you into really good shape since there’s a lot of running at USNA.

If you need the money, work. If you can get by without it, XC. JMHO.
