The base hourly pay for on-campus student workers will increase this fall to $9 per hour from $7.25, the current minimum wage in North Carolina. This includes students employed through institutional work study, federal work study and the recently announced pilot program, Providing Aid Through Campus Employment (PACE), which guarantees on-campus work for selected freshmen from the middle class.

About 95 students were offered a position in the program, which originated during a phone call between President Leo Lambert and Patrick Murphy, director of financial planning.</p>
<p>"Dr. Lambert called and asked 'if you were to target students with the most problems meeting the expenses of college, who would it be?'" Murphy said. "I told him it's the middle class."

<p>I think the $9/hour is very generous. Older son has work study at Wake Forest and is paid $7.25/hour.</p>
