when can you apply for a work study job?

i already got mine

^me too.

if you apply to any of those jobs, do they interview you ( I dont live in Berkeley) ? do you need a resume? I’m gonna be a freshman and I havent really had any “real” jobs besides babysitting and tutoring.

I already got mine. Yes you need a resume and I was interviewed in person.

same for me^^

Ok thanks, I guess I’ll have to wait until I move in to start applying ( I live in so cal). Do you think I’ll be at a disadvantage by applying in the fall?

You can start applying now and maybe do a phone interview. For my job I applied for a month ago got an interview and then they told me 2 weeks later.

You may be at a disadvantage on what job your apply for since they may want to go with someone whose been in college and knows how to balance out work and school.

you should apply as soon as possible because the jobs are filling up fast

Apply as soon as you can because lots of other people will be applying as well, and it doesn’t take that much effort to apply to additional jobs (I mean the entry-level stuff are quite similar for the most part) and you could always suggest a phone interview (won’t hurt). In addition to “real jobs” it’s also appropriate to list extracurriculars/clubs where you were involved and try to make what you did there relevant to the job’s requirements, I mean you got into Cal, I’m sure you did something of substance in high school :)

Ok, I’ll start applying next week then, thank you. Do you think it would be a good idea to include a mini personal statement n my resume? or should I just list all of the things I did in high school?

^ well if the application instructions are to email it to a certain address or if there’s space in the form to write a note to the employer (I don’t have work study so am not familiar with the specifics, I’m going by what I’ve seen on Callisto), then you can put a couple words there and end off saying to “please find your resume attached”, something like that.

You don’t have to list everything you did in high school, maybe just one or two main ones where you did substantive stuff, and I’d say list the tutoring since it’s paid work. You probably won’t have space to list much more on one page anyway. You can google around for high school resumes samples and stuff like that, that might be helpful to look at if you’re just getting started?
