Work-Study Job Interview

Any tips from experience? If you get a call in, is that a good sign? What to expect? I also want to go in casually (dark jeans, blouse) since it is only an on-campus job, but don't know if that's okay.

dont do casual, it’s alway better to be overdressed than underdressed.

i don’t know what a call-in is, so can’t really answer that, but you should definitely dress up (no jeans). most jobs are hard to get, so don’t worry if you don’t get it the first time. the questions will be pretty standard (why are you applying, experience you have, etc.). bring a schedule of when you’re free to work, and your resume (even if you already emailed it).

Let us know what the job title is. I wouldn’t wear jeans. If you were a guy, I’d wear khaki pants and a dress shirt (no suit required for work study). Think of a female equivalent attire to that.

As khanum1 mentioned, the interview is very easy and should take 20 minutes at most. Mostly to gauge your interests and make sure your skills/experiences are aligned with what is required for the position.

‘Call in’ for an interview. It’s a clerical job at Anderson Executive Education. I’ve had jobs before but this would be my first work-study.

Never dress casual. Wear business casual attire. This means leather shoes, white dress shirt, and slacks (or khakis since, as the above person stated, it is an on campus job). Don’t really need a tie for a work study job.

Comb your hair, use gel or wax. Also, bring a leather portfolio. I know Ackerman sells some cheap ones for $15 or so, but I suggest you get one of those $30 ones. Consider it a long term investment as you’ll use it in the future. It’s always nice to have paper and a pen ready. Plus, print several copies (yes, several) of your resume and put it in there. Your interviewer is likely to ask for a copy of your resume, even though you submitted it online.

Don’t use a plastic binder or folder you’d normally use for class. It looks very unprofessional.

He or she will most likely ask you questions like, “Tell me about yourself,” “Why do you want to work here?” “What related work experiences have you had prior to this job?”

Also in the end, they will ask you if you have any questions. ALWAYS ask a question or two.

The interview shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes really.
