The Job Search site opens tomorrow. Any advice for incoming freshman on what to look for? What are the best jobs to have on campus?

Depends on what you want in a job. Want a lot of time for studying? Library or monitor jobs are great for that. It’s really competitive unfortunately, but since you have work study (I assume this since that’s what your asking about) you will get something.

theres not a lot job offers…

^ Yep… Am I safe in assuming there’ll be more out there?

I would check the library’s website for their openings. I never used the experience website or whatever back when I had work-study. I applied directly to the library around now ish, and I was interviewed during the first week of classes and I got it. I loved that job, and it allowed me to study when I needed to during work. Though, keeping in mind, I worked in the Newcomb Reading Room which is a lot quieter than the main stacks.

Also, don’t be afraid to try non work study opportunities by applying to the bookstore as well. I wish you luck!

how do you apply to the bookstore?

Its a Barnes and Noble app thats specific to Bing. Go to the bookstore website (google for it, it should be one of the first hits) and look on the home page for an application. There’s usually a link somewhere.

If I don’t apply for a job around now, will I not be able to get one? What other jobs are out there?

It’s quite possible that the jobs may be taken already by returning students. It doesn’t hurt to apply now regardless, worse case scenario, they’ll call you up for next semester!

I know that I applied to the bookstore this past January, and didn’t get called for an interview until MAY. But it worked out, since I’m going to be working there this fall!
