Hello,

So I chose the lab assistant job on my work study application because i figured it would look good on my resume. But now I'm thinking perhaps it would have been more beneficial to get a job where I could actually study (ie. proctor or librarian). How does one go about altering their work study choice after they already sent in the app?

And I'd appreciate if anyone who has done work study before could comment on their experiences.

I actually don’t think what you request has a very strong correlation with what you actually get. I know I requested something along those lines (I think I ranked my top 3 requests) and somehow, I ended up in the Kemper Art Museum, which is probably the last place I wanted to work since it’s so far from campus.

You can always choose to not accept work-study and just look for openings on the Student Financial Services website where they will have listings of positions open for work-study students and just take those instead.

I’m a prospective student right now too who was offered work study, and I just thought I’d add on to Balancedhelium that the biggest difference between work study and pursuing your own job is that income from work study is not counted against you for financial aid in graduate school.
