So I have a straight forward question. In my financial aid package, I was given $1350 in Workstudy money. Now that I'm on campus, I can't find a job to save my life. Either all of the good jobs are taken by upperclassmen, the remaining jobs have certain requirements that I don't fit in, or simply put Im not getting any emails back. So my question is at the end of the semester, will I get a bill of $1350 just because I couldn't pay that money off with a job?

If you were counting on that $1,350 to pay tutition or room and board then yes you will get a bill. No work, no money.

And don’t use email. Go see people about work study jobs! email will get you no where and is just lazy

As WS is paid based on the amount a student works and earns, it is not usually available to pay for tuition and fees, room and board etc. Most students use it for the non direct school expense part of the COA such as personal expenses and transportation. If that is the case, then no you will not get a bill - you will just have to find another way to cover those expenses. If you were expecting to cover direct costs such as tuition with the WS, then it is likely you are already overdue for those expenses. If so, you need to sort it out ASAP.

From what my son is telling me the less desirable jobs, like working in the dining room are almost always available at his school. He found his job by walking around to the places he wanted to work and asking. He needed to follow that up with an online application, but it worked, he got hired where he wanted. OTOH, his hours are not so good: 7:45 to 8:00am 4 days a week, but he is hoping that more desirable hours open up after he has been there a while.

To start, I suggest you ask for a job as you go aout campus and attend your classes.

Hmmm…is he working 15 minutes a day? (lol)

^ha. that would be a kick to have to get up for 15 minutes. LOL. No actually, almost as bad, 7:45 to 9:00am.

^ That still stinks :/.

OP- Keep looking. Go ask at the cafeteria offices (we have food services offices where you can pick up apps, not sure how it works at other places). They’re almost always looking for people. And keep looking- every day! Things pop up all the time.

The other place to inquire about is the university “call center”…where the phone calls soliciting for donations from alums are made. Again…not the most “desirable” work (you have to be prepared for rejection)…but usually jobs are available. At DD’s school, the only hitch was that you had to be available to work in 3 hour shifts. It was her first WS job…and she was able to get another one after one term that was a dynamite job she had for the rest of undergrad school.
