What sort of work study is there available at UCI? What kind of jobs? May these be used as experience for future jobs? What is the pay? How does it interfere w/ school? I just want to hear about work study available at UCI

The work-study jobs are usually any on-campus jobs, whether its working as office assistants, to cashiers, to cooks, to security, you name it.

Yes, they are considered as work experience because it essentially is just a regular job. Only the gov’t is paying for a chunk of your wages. Pay is as you would expect it to be with any student part-time job, the pay should range from minimum to $10/hr for the on-campus jobs.

It interferes with school just as any part-time job would. Just look at work-study jobs as… a regular job except the government is paying for a huge chunk of your wages. If you’re awarded $2500 in work study, then you can make up to that much from your job, and from there it will depend on the employer.

If you don’t have work-study, how likely is it that you can still get a job? I heard that a lot of spots are saved for people in work-study since the government subsidizes it therefore it’s cheaper for employers.

You can still get jobs if you don’t have work-study. Just keep looking and keep applying.

Yep, the on-campus employers will pounce at the chance to grab work-study students simply because they will be saving money.
