what kind of jobs do you get through work study and what is the process to get them?

Besides the card-swiping-at-WoodPEC jobs, the Econ department does work studies. You can do tedious stuff for professors’ research projects. If you know any programming, you can sit at the CS computer lab desk or at the math department desk.
I don’t know what the process is like.

For some reason I thought you needed to get “work study” as part of your financial aid package in order to do it, unless you end up helping a professor or something. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, you do. I had never heard of it until my sophomore year.

Assuming you have WS as part of ur financial aid package, some of the common jobs r doing the administrative/clerical/busywork at the WoodPEC or library (swiping cards, cataloging, front desk person, which i dont recommend since these dont give u much additional experience beyond the pay), being a TA for class or EPASS tutor (though that probably wont happen till at least sophomore year), calling alumni to donate money (Emory Telefund), or working as a lab assistant at the med school, CDC, or CAS research labs.

But essentially you can either look for ones that are listed on Eagle Ops (https://emory-csm.symplicity.com/students/), e-mail professors to see if they need work, or ask directly for an application. But when you do make sure u tell them u have WS since many on-campus jobs can be taken by either WS or non-WS students, and they’ll prefer WS students since the employer only has to pay 1/3 of your salary (with the other 2/3 being funded by Emory’s cut of federal WS money).

there are so many opportunities. a lot of students did volunteer activities like emory reads and/or jumpstart last year too.

There are many work study opportunities at Emory, but as mentioned above, you must have been granted work study in your financial aid package. There is a work study fair in the first few weeks of school where you can go and meet potential employers, pass out your resume, and set up interviews.

i dont have work experience so what should go on my resume?

so the thing i dont get if we do have workstudy…is there like a website through which we apply, a center, or sth?

You apply through EagleOps, it’s the job data base for Emory whether it be work study or non work study. I was work study last year (my freshman year) and I got a job as an office assistant for the pharmacology department, decent pay, great convenient hours, amazing staff, and they let me just sit at a desk and do my homework if I needed to. A lot of my friends had office assistant jobs and we loved it, another friend of mine worked at the WoodPEC and hated it because she could never get more hours so she ended up working only like 5 hours a week.

when should we start applying?

Sorry for bumping a year old thread, but I want to know how to apply for a WS (it’s in my FA package). Eagle OPs is open now, and I have done everything except put in my resume.

apply through eagle ops like the people above said. you just search the listing sections for work study related jobs and click submit resume. some may require a cover letter.
