Work-Study

How can I get a work-study job? How do I know if I qualify? Any information is appreciated.
I went here and was still confused:
Financial Aid - Emory College - Frequently Asked Questions
I also checked monstertrak and there didn't seem to be anything available.

Thanks in advance.

kstrike,

"Work-Study" is really part of the Federal Work-Study program, which is one type of financial aid that may be offered a student who applies for need-based financial aid. Since each student's financial circumstances are different, it is best that you contact a financial advisor in the Office of Financial Aid (404-727-6039).

If you have previously applied for financial aid and have already been offered a financial aid package, ask the financial advisor whether or not you might qualify for a Work-Study option. If you do, it opens up the doors to many jobs (mostly on-campus jobs, but also some off-campus) that will hire ONLY Work-Study eligible students. However, even if you do not qualify for Work-Study does not mean that you cannot apply for many other jobs on-campus in which they will hire any student, regardless of Work-Study eligibility.

During the summer, there will be a lack of jobs posted on Monstertrak because school is not in session. When it gets closer to the beginning of the term (late July/early August), start checking again, and you'll see many more jobs posted (both Work-Study and otherwise).

Thanks a lot!

I applied for financial aid, but I still have not gotten my reward. It just says "Inquiry access denied. " I emailed the Office of Financial Aid and they have yet to respond. However, the full tuition has been added to my account balance. So maybe I just don't qualify?

kstrike,

I would not hesitate giving the Office of Financial Aid a call and asking for a financial aid advisor who can lend some insight on your financial aid application. (Give them your last name and ask for who would be the assigned FinAid advisor.) Be sure to check your OPUS messages to see if there is anything outstanding. I assume there are no outstanding items, and so even though not all students' financial aid apps have been processed, it would be OK to contact the FinAid people.
