Work Study...

...my Financial Aids says that I need to make 3,000 in work study. How do I get a job. Are there work-study specific jobs I can apply for?

Also how hard is it to get a job around campus. Is it first come first serve or do they look at credentials?

if you qualified for work study, you are guaranteed enough hours of work to make 3000 in a year

but how do you get the job tho? do they automatically place you somewhere so you can get those hours? do you need to apply? are you able to earn more than the 3000?
and generally speaking, is it diffucult to keep up with studying and working on campus?

sry for all the ? =]

you apply yourself

info is here

the only way you can get rid of $3000 while working 5 hrs a week is becoming an IT advisor. So hope you get contacted by ITA managers ;)

^^^what do you mean “get rid”??

don’t you want the 3000 because that money goes directly to you in paychecks for your personal expenses?

also, if you are currently an incoming freshman, are you allowed to sign up for work study
this summer??

someone answer this mans question ^^^^

I had that same question last year, and they never really made it clear for me. I think once you matriculate at Penn, you are allowed to do the work study for this summer.

“get rid” - you are expected to pay penn with that money. Of course, this can be used for any personal expense as it goes to your bank account. You don’t have to pay penn with it, but penn considers it part of your financial aid.

Most non-freshmen use that money to buy food. Meal plans suck horribly and the dining halls are filled with rude people and bad food. It’s much cheaper to buy meals on your own outside of the dining areas than use a meal plan. That’s where most people use their work-study.

pay penn what??

I thought we were expected to pay the 2300 student contribution using our summer savings

and then i thought the work study money was for our own travel expenses, books, etc

pardon my ignorance but whats an IT?

itas are the information technology advisors, basically students paid to be tech support staff

“the only way you can get rid of $3000 while working 5 hrs a week is becoming an IT advisor”

why is that? does it pay considerably more than some other on-campus job?
