I JUST got my financial aid award for senior year (FINALLY) and found out that I've been awarded $2,500 for the year in work-study. I do not know much about work-study so I am trying to figure out how this works. How do I find work study jobs? I knew of a database at one point but I've lost the link, and don't know if that's the norm. How many hours of work a week is that going to translate to? Do I make any money that I am allowed to keep, or do I make enough for my award amount and then that's it? What happens if I don't find a work study job? Is there anything else I need to know?

I am going to make an appt with finaid anyway since I was awarded all sorts of new goodies I don't understand, but I am eager to get some information on this.

1250 per semester is roughly 10~11 hrs a week I think. You get to keep the work study money you earn from the work study job(s), and if you don’t earn the full 2500, it’s perfectly fine. You would just not able to get the remaining $ if you don’t work enough. Working with work study isn’t really different from working without WS unless it’s a job that requires WS, so you only get an edge when the job requires WS.

What happens if I don’t find a work study job?
Then you don’t earn any of the WS money, and it’d be as if the 2500 had never been there in the first place. You don’t get penalized or anything, however.

If I don’t make enough money or don’t manage to secure a job, I’d have to make it up with my private loan. I suppose it would be a nuisance but not impossible to apply for additional funds mid-year if I didn’t manage to come up with the 2,500.

yeah that’s the problem with workstudy, you don’t get it until you earn it, so it can mess u up in the beginning when you dont have any $ from WS yet. Last yr at one point, i literally had like less than 10 bucks at one point LOL
